Green Grid Inc., a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and internet of things (IoT)-powered climate solutions, is recognized by NVIDIA as one of the emerging AI startups revolutionizing AI wildfire detection and prevention technology in the U.S.
In NVIDIA’s recent article, CEO and Founder of Green Grid Inc., Chinmoy Saha, shared how GGI is at the forefront of this fight with the artificial intelligence of things (AIoT)-driven instant situational insights (iSIU® ) sensor platform, offering utilities, municipalities and communities a 24/7 edge in real-time fire risk monitoring and wildfire prevention to reduce the risks of catastrophic damage. As wildfires become increasingly destructive due to climate change, this recognition underscores GGI’s mission to create intelligent infrastructure through AI, sensors, and real-time situational awareness, a crucial component of wildfire resilience in the face of climate change.
AI Wildfire Detection: Real-World Impact for Utility and Community Safety
In September 2024, Green Grid Inc.’s AI-powered wildfire detection system, iSIU® platform, alerted a client in Southern California that a wildfire was heading in their direction, starting from the nearby San Bernardino National Forest. This successful case illustrates how AIoT wildfire sensors can provide early detection and instant alerts for remote regions. “By acting early, the community was able to implement critical fire suppression measures for the fire before it reached and became uncontrollable,” said Saha. Thanks to favorable weather and fast response, the fire did not breach the community. It was a vivid example of AI-driven detection translating into real-world protection.
Conversely, in another case, a potential client had expressed interest in deploying GGI’s system at the site of the Eaton Fire, a devastating wildfire in the Los Angeles area that tragically claimed 17 lives and more than 9,000 buildings. “If we had our system there, this fire could have been mitigated,” Saha said. “Early detection is the key, so the fire is contained and it doesn’t become a catastrophic wildfire.”
AI Monitoring for Safe Controlled Burns
As wildfire mitigation strategies evolve, controlled burns- intentional and low-intensity fires that reduce dry fuel buildup- are becoming more important. However, without real-time monitoring, these efforts can easily become risky. Green Grid Inc. supports safe controlled burn monitoring through trailer-mounted iSIU® systems, providing real-time data on fire and smoke activity to ensure burns stay within permitted boundaries.
Working Toward a Safer, Smarter Grid
Green Grid Inc. believes that technology alone won’t stop wildfires, but technology in the hands of the first responders, utilities, and communities absolutely can. That’s why GGI continues to work closely with utility partners, communities, regulatory bodies, and fire departments across California and other high wildfire risk zones. As CAL FIRE battalion chief David Acuna emphasized: “If AI can enable fire departments to get to the scene of a fire when it’s just a few acres, it’s a lot easier to control than if it’s 50 or more acres.”
What’s Next for Green Grid Inc.
Recognition by partners and NVIDIA affirms the value of Green Grid Inc.’s mission, team, and work to create AI-powered wildfire protection solutions. But we’re just getting started.
GGI is expanding deployments, investing in innovation, and making our AIoT wildfire monitoring systems more accessible to partners globally. These tools are essential for utilities seeking scalable wildfire mitigation solutions and early threat detection in high-risk areas. As Saha mentioned, “We’re not just detecting fires. We’re building a smarter infrastructure to prevent them before they begin.”
